Dear Mount Royal School Families
We are well into our 2024-25 school year, with a busy and successful start. This note includes some important upcoming dates and reminders for families.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Please do not enter our parking lot for pick-up or drop-off. We have several handicap buses that need access, and they have been unable to do so due to parent vehicles blocking the way. There is ample street parking available for picking up and dropping off students. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Sports Teams and Spectators
Thank you to all of our students who tried out for the soccer, basketball, and cross-country teams. Congratulations to those who made the teams! I look forward to watching our students compete. For students who enjoy cheering on our Lions, please note that all spectators must be accompanied by an adult for team events. This is a new expectation from our junior high athletic association and applies to all schools.
Volunteering
We plan to increase the number of field trips this year to enhance students' experiences and learning. To make these trips possible, we need parent volunteers. Please consider obtaining a police clearance and volunteering for these trips. More information about volunteering can be found on your MyCBE account. If you have volunteered at previous schools, you may still have a valid police clearance and can be added to our roster. Please carisseeuw@cbe.ab.ca if you would like us to check the status of a prior application.
MyCBE Forms and Fees
Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms for your child through your MyCBE account by Monday, September 16. These forms are mandatory each year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding. Thank you for completing them. School fees, including course fees for both Term 1 and Term 2, and sports teams fees are also available in your account.
Terry Fox Run
As mentioned in the message sent to families, our Terry Fox Run will take place on September 20th. Each student will participate with their grade in the run/walk, and we are aiming to raise $3,000 for cancer research. Fundraising will be done online only through the link below, which will take you to our school’s fundraising page: https://schools.terryfox.ca/72163
Love pizza? Join us for some community building by meeting other families at Blaze Pizza or grabbing takeout after the Terry Fox Run! Blaze Pizza will donate 25% of proceeds back to Mount Royal on Friday, September 20th, from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. Just enter code 1107A when you order.
School Council/Parent Society Meeting
Our first meeting is on Wednesday, September 25, at 6:00 PM and will last for just one hour. Please consider attending to have input in our Mount Royal community.
Meet the Teacher/SEA’s Interest Meeting
Thursday, September 26, is an opportunity for parents/guardians to visit Mount Royal and meet their child's teachers. The event will follow an open format from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, and we encourage students to attend as well. This is a great chance for parents to tour the school and meet all of the teachers.
Before the Meet the Teacher event, we will hold an information session for parents of Grade 8 and 9 students interested in the SEA’s Educational sailing trip in May. If there is enough interest, the five day trip—where students will sail around Saanich Bay—will take place in May 2025.
