Update to Overflow School Designation for Mount Royal School

Vincent Massey School (one of two overflow receiver schools for Mount Royal School) has reached capacity and is unable to accommodate any newly registered students overflowed from Mount Royal School.

Queen Elizabeth High School, which serves Grades 7 to 12, will now serve as a third overflow school to accommodate ongoing enrolment growth in the Mount Royal School boundary for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. For more information, please read the notice.

Notice Regarding School Overflow Designation for Mount Royal School

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information on capacity issues at Mount Royal School, and inform you of the accommodation plans. Mount Royal School is over capacity and is no longer able to accommodate all students who live in the boundary for the 2022-2023 school year and beyond. For this reason, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) will be capping enrolment at Mount Royal School and designating overflow schools.

Effective immediately, the following changes will be implemented:

A cap on Grade 7 to 9 enrolment at Mount Royal School.

  • All new Grade 7 to 9 students designated to attend Mount Royal School who cannot be accommodated at Mount Royal School will now be designated to one of two overflow schools: Vincent Massey School or A.E. Cross School. See the map on the last page for the boundary of new overflow designations.
  • A lottery will be held for Grade 7 students for next school year. Students who are unsuccessful in the lottery process will be designated to an overflow school and placed on a call-back list.

Information about the CBE lottery process is available at Lottery Information for Parents.

Please read the notice from Nov. 4, 2022 for more information about the cap on Grade 7 to 9 enrolment. The overflows will continue until it is no longer necessary.

Our School

Regular Program

What is the Regular Program?

The Regular Program spans from kindergarten through grade 12, providing a comprehensive educational experience. In alignment with provincial standards, our curriculum not only integrates academics, arts, and physical education but also emphasizes tailoring the learning adventure to individual strengths and interests. We're all about inclusivity, providing special education resources to support diverse learning needs. Beyond the classroom, students dive into a world of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, music, and community service, making every day exciting. We believe in teamwork, actively encouraging parental involvement through events like parent-teacher conferences, creating a collaborative and supportive educational atmosphere.

Alternative Program

Learning to Fit Each Student's Needs and Interests

Alternative programs provide a distinct educational experience by focusing on specific subjects or languages and engaging students with advanced learning methods or in unique classroom environments. These programs are designed to personalize education to meet students' learning needs and goals. Additionally, some alternative programs may be more flexible regarding schedule or structure, giving students greater control over their learning. Parental involvement is highly encouraged through activities such as parent-teacher conferences and school events.

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to non-Canadian students who are eager to embark on an enriching educational journey with us. Our schools are welcoming, caring, respectful and safe environments where students will learn, make new friends, and discover their talents and interests. Students who are not Canadian citizens must register through CBE Welcome Centre, even if they have attended school elsewhere in Canada.
