Dear Mount Royal School Families

Our first two months of the school year have been filled with many enriching academic and extracurricular opportunities for students. This note provides some highlights of recent events, important upcoming dates, and reminders for families.

October Activities Halloween Activities

Our Halloween festivities were a great success! Many students dressed up and joined in the school dance. A special thanks to Ms. McNab and our leadership students for organizing such a fun event.

Sports & Events

  • Soccer: Congratulations to our girls' soccer team for finishing first in their division and bringing home the city championship banner! Our boys' team also had a great season, finishing second in the city finals playing a hard fought game in the snow.
  • Basketball: Our basketball teams are having a great season, and looking forward to the city semi-finals (and hopefully finals) toward the end of November.
  • Wrestling: Wrestling season will kick off shortly after basketball season concludes.  All students are welcome to participate.
  • Speech Tournament: Congratulations to Sophia H., who brought home the bronze medal at the Churchill Speech Tournament this past week!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are a valuable time to connect directly with your child’s teachers. To book a meeting, please use your MyCBE account. Booking opens on Thursday, November 21, at 6:00 pm and closes on November 26 at midnight. Each conference is 10 minutes, and spaces are limited, so please book only one slot per teacher per student.

Conference Dates

  • Thursday, November 28: 4:20 pm – 7:30 pm
  • Friday, November 29: 8:30 am – 1:30 pm (No classes for students on this day.)

Parents of students in the TASC program will set up appointments directly with the teacher.

Remembrance Day Assembly & Veterans’ Food Bank Drive

Our school will hold a Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday, November 7. The moment of silence will take place at 11:00 am, and the assembly will begin at 1:30 pm. We’re honored to welcome Corporal Miguel Blanco as our guest speaker.  There will also be students sharing letters and musical support from our school band. Parents are welcome to attend.

We are supporting a Veterans’ Food Bank Drive. If possible, please send non-perishable items with your child to school.

Off-Site Trips

Our recent Kamp Kawanis trip was a huge success, and students had a fantastic time. We’re planning for this to become an annual event for our grade 9 students.

Some upcoming trips include:

  • Grade 7: Overnight trip to Frank Slide in May.
  • Grade 8: Ski trip in February.
  • Grade 9: Trip to Western Canada High School to attend a matinee performance of Les Misérables at the end of this month.

We extend a big thank-you to our school council for helping to reduce costs through fundraising, and to the parents who fundraise or sponsor students—your support makes these opportunities possible. If any field trip cost is prohibitive, please reach out to me directly.

School Council

All parents are invited to attend our next school council meeting on November 27, from 6:00-7:00 pm at Mount Royal School, Room 1. We look forward to seeing you there and discussing upcoming plans and initiatives. Please see the important message at the end of this note from parent council.

Message from School Council

Mount Royal School, Annual Direct donation Campaign – November 4 through 29

Our school year is well underway and you are now invited to participate in the ANNUAL DIRECT DONATION CAMPAIGN

What is Direct Donation?

Parents, guardians or other family members make monetary donations to benefit the school, and receive a TAX RECEIPT*** for their donation. In addition to two other popular fundraisers, (Davison Orchards apples and Purdys Chocolates – see below), the direct donation campaign supports and enriches the student experience and maximizes funds going directly to the school.

Why Direct Donation?

Dollars donated directly to the school have the greatest impact with the least amount of precious time invested by parents and families. In addition, this fundraising format allows some donors to apply for matching gifts from their place of employment or to direct United Way donations to “Education Matters” Mount Royal School Council campaign.

Goals

Two goals have been set for the 2024 Direct Donation. 1) A monetary goal of $8000 and 2) A PARTICIPATION GOAL of 50%. This means half of Mount Royal families contribute some amount – any amount counts toward this goal.

We understand some families will be able to contribute more, some less and others are not in a position to contribute. If it is not feasible for your family, please know it is OKAY and there is no obligation to donate. We are grateful for all of the different ways people contribute to our school community.

If you are in a position to contribute, please consider donating here https://www.educationmatters.ca/project-matters/mount-royal-school/ and help to continue providing an extraordinary junior high experience to the students.

We look forward to sharing the results of the campaign in the coming weeks and how it benefits the school this year.

***For amounts $20 and over

Purdy's Chocolates Fundraiser

In addition to Direct donation, a most delicious way to support Mount Royal students is our Purdys Chocolates fundraiser. Now until Friday, November 29 you can order Purdys treats by joining our campaign and browsing the tasty selection of holiday chocolates online. The perfect gifts for family, friends and yourself all in one convenient place. After all orders are submitted, we'll sort them and you can pick them up at the school on Monday, December 16. Place your order through our unique link (below) and share this link with family & friends who might also like to order.

Many thanks to everyone for your support. Even if you can't buy chocolates or contribute to the direct donation, it would mean the world if you could share this fundraiser link with everyone you know!
