Dear Mount Royal School Families
Happy New Year! I hope all our families had a wonderful and restful break. As we step into January, we are gearing up for a busy month ahead. Today, we had our first-ever whole-school field trip, and by all accounts, it was a great success. Thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who helped make this endeavor possible.
This month also brings the release of our first report card of the school year and the conclusion of Semester 1. Below, you'll find highlights from recent events, key upcoming dates, and important reminders for families.
January Important Dates
Jan. 9: Whole school field trip to MRU
Jan 15: Grade 9-Transition to High School informational meeting
Jan. 21: Grade 9 vaccinations
Jan. 22 School Council meeting 6:00PM
Jan. 27: Report Cards available for viewing on your MyCBE account IPP's sent home with students (to be signed and returned)
Jan. 28: Semester 2 begins (option classes may change for students)
Jan. 30: Open House (for our incoming students- currently grade 6)
Jan. 31: No Classes (Non-Instructional day)
December Highlights
December was filled with learning, activities, and plenty of holiday cheer! Highlights included:
- A successful toy drive benefiting the Ronald McDonald House.
- A door decorating contest, winter drawing contest, festive hat day, and ugly sweater day, which all added to the
- spirit of the season.
- Our Winter Wonderland Celebration was a standout event! The band performed beautifully, and our students wowed the crowd with a variety of dance routines. The evening show saw our gym packed with students, families, and friends, making it a night to remember. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success!
Sports & Activities
- Volleyball Try-outs: Try-outs for both the girls' and boys' teams are underway. Students can check the board outside the gym or speak to one of our Physical Education teachers for more details.
- Wrestling: Wrestling season continues with another tournament on January 13, and divisionals happening during the day on January 28. Good luck to all our athletes!
- Auditions for Our Spring Musical: Students have the exciting opportunity to participate in our spring musical, Frozen Jr. There are many ways to get involved, from performing to costume/set design and technical support. Auditions are currently underway, with sign-up sheets posted outside the library. We're thrilled to have two recent Western graduates directing the show, supported by a few of our teachers!
- Other Activities: Students are encouraged to join some of the many extracurricular options available, including Speech & Debate, Construction Club, Fashion Club, and Science Fair. There's something for everyone to get involved in!
School Council & Direct Donation
Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for January 22, from 6:00-7:30 pm in Room 1 at Mount Royal School. All parents are welcome to join us to discuss our schools for updates, plans and initiatives. We look forward to seeing you there!
