Dear Mount Royal School Families
As December begins, we find ourselves just three weeks away from the Winter Break. The school is buzzing with activities, including preparations for our Renaissance Fair (Grade 8 students) and our Winter Celebration (Dec. 19 6:00pm). Below are some highlights from recent events, important upcoming dates, and reminders for families.
December Important Dates
Friday Dec 23 - Jan.3 Winter Break (school is closed)
Monday Jan. 6 - Classes Resume
Sports & Events
- Basketball: Both our girls' and boys' basketball teams had outstanding seasons, finishing their journeys in the semi-finals. The basketball wrap-up celebration is Dec.4 after school. Congratulations to both teams on their hard work and achievements!
- Wrestling: Wrestling season is now underway, with tournaments set for Dec. 4 and Dec. 12. Good luck to all athletes!
- Try-A-Trade: Last week, students participated in Try-A-Trade at Central Memorial High School, where they explored Career and Technology (CT) Centre options available to them in high school.
Remembrance Day Assembly
On Thursday, November 7, we held our annual Remembrance Day assembly. The event was a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on the significance of the day. Highlights included a moving speech from Corporal Miguel Blanco, readings of letters from soldiers by students, and music from our school band. We were proud of our students for their respectful participation.
Notorious Cree Visit
We had the privilege of welcoming James Jones, also known as Notorious Cree, to our school for an inspiring assembly. As an Indigenous hoop dancer, James captivated our students with his performances and shared messages about inclusiveness and kindness.
James is Nehiyaw (Cree) from Tall Cree First Nation in Treaty 8 Territory, Northern Alberta. He has engaged over six million people globally through platforms like lnstagram and TikTok. With notable performances at events such as the Winter Olympics, Juno Awards, Pan Am Games, and Coachella, James uses his artistry to advocate for Indigenous communities and inspire future generations to reclaim and celebrate their culture. We were very fortunate to have James work with our students at Mount Royal School.
School Council & Direct Donation
Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for January 22, from 6:00-7:15 pm in Room 1 at Mount Royal School. We look forward to seeing you there to discuss exciting plans and initiatives. Thank you to all the parents who have generously contributed through direct donations or fundraising efforts. Your support benefits every student, including your own!
